Wichita police search for 4-month-old boy missing for 3 weeks (+video)
Wichita police are asking the public’s help in locating a 4-month-old child reported missing for about three weeks.
Vincent D. Moore was last seen with his 24-year-old father early on the morning of July 11 leaving a house near 31st Street South and Hydraulic. The child’s 24-year-old mother called 911 around 5 p.m. Thursday to report he was missing.
Wichita police Capt. Jeff Weible said investigators have been looking into the case since then. He gave this account:
On or around June 5, the mother dropped off the 4-month-old and a 2-year-old child with their father for visitation. After a few days, the mother’s attempts to contact the father were unsuccessful “and continued efforts to reach the father and locate the whereabouts of the children were also unsuccessful.”
Sometime in mid- to late June, the father took the two children to Texas, where they stayed until approximately July 9. The father and the children then returned to Wichita, living in the house near 31st and Hydraulic.
The father was seen leaving the house with the 4-month-old in the early morning hours of July 11, and the child has not been seen since. The father also was carrying a blue floral-print diaper bag.
On Wednesday, the father was stopped by Sedgwick County sheriff’s deputies in the 5500 block of West 21st Street, near Sedgwick County Park, and was arrested and booked into jail on unrelated warrants.
Wichita police Lt. Joe Schroeder confirmed the father’s name is Gary McKensey Moore Jr. Jail records show he was booked around 4:30 a.m. Thursday on two probation violations and failure to appear. In total, his bond is $850,000, records show.
When he was arrested, Moore had the 2-year-old with him, but not the 4-month-old. The 2-year-old has since been returned to the mother.
“Family, friends and law enforcement have heard different accounts of the whereabouts of the child and all have been proven false,” Weible said. “Our focus is on finding the 4-month-old child and to determine if there’s any criminal activity associated with the child’s disappearance.”
The Exploited and Missing Children’s Unit is investigating alongside the Wichita Police Department’s homicide section, which Weible called “common practice.”
If anyone has information regarding Vincent Moore’s location, they are asked to call 911, Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111 or the police homicide section at 316-268-4182.
