Tornado spotted in Reno County (VIDEOS)

A severe thunderstorm and tornado warning was issued for parts of south-central Kansas, including McPherson, Reno, Rice and Harvey counties Monday night.

At 6:30 p.m, 60 mph winds and quarter-size hail were reported near Inman, moving south at 20 mph, the National Weather Service in Wichita reported.

Weather spotters confirmed a tornado was seen near Nickerson moving southwest at 10 mph.

The tornado touched down three miles southeast of Nickerson, knocking down trees and power lines, according to Evan Seiwert, emergency management specalist in Reno County.

“We received reports of outbuildings that have had damages and two reports of two homes that were destroyed,” Seiwert said. “One was a cabin, another was a farm home.”

Golf ball-size hail was reported near Langdon.

At 7:55 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was located near Abbyville moving southwest at 5 mph.

And at 8:32 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was reported near Arlington, moving northeast at 25 mph with golf ball-size hail and 60 mph wind gusts.

The thunderstorm warning remained in effect until 10:15 p.m.
