The Center for the Improvement of Human Functioning International — also known as the Pyradomes, the Bright Spot for Health and "the domes on K-96" — has simplified things by changing its name to the Riordan Clinic.
The name honors founder Hugh Riordan, who opened the center at 3100 N. Hillside in 1975. It combines lifestyle approaches and nutrition with traditional medicine.
Riordan died in 2005; one of his sons, Brian, recently became CEO and president.
"The most consistent and clear message I got" was that the facility had too many names and that they didn't reflect what goes on there, Brian Riordan said.
Research showed that Hugh Riordan was well known and that "clinic" more clearly conveyed the activities.
The new website is riordanclinic.org.
In addition to the name change, the Taste of Health Restaurant now is the Taste of Health Cafe and has become a whole-foods juice and smoothie bar that also offers light snacks.
