There’s a new business opening at WaterWalk Place downtown near Main and Waterman, and while it’s not a coffee shop, Scott DeNeve hopes it seems like one.
Platinum Realty, which DeNeve founded in 2005 in Overland Park, is “real estate meets coffee shop.”
“It’s a different way of doing real estate,” DeNeve says of the office.
“It’s just really that whole coffee shop feel and a more modern approach.”
The almost 1,500-square-foot office will have an open feel with a vaulted ceiling, soft seating, computer bars, TVs and a cafe area with, of course, coffee.
“It’s not a stale, boring old office,” DeNeve says. “It’s our brand. It’s our look. It’s who we are.”
DeNeve says real estate is a virtual business now.
“The role of an agent is changing so much,” he says.
“There is no need to go in and camp,” DeNeve says of an office.
“I just don’t want to be affiliated with the way it’s always been done.”
He says his customers are his agents. He says he treats them well and gives them what they need so they can help their customers, who are buyers and sellers.
Platinum, which mostly focuses on residential real estate, has 850 agents in five states. The bulk of the agents are in the Kansas City area. There are 15 agents in Wichita. The company opened a temporary office here about five months ago.
“We hit the ground running pretty quickly in these new markets,” DeNeve says. “We anticipate that we should be able to grow pretty rapidly.”
He says his job is to make sure the company doesn’t grow too quickly. DeNeve says different cities have different cultures.
“There’s always things you’ve got to learn.”
Platinum will open in early May on the ground floor of WaterWalk between Pulaski Bank Home Lending and Kelley, York & Associates. This lease makes the commercial portion of WaterWalk 100 percent leased with nine tenants.
DeNeve says WaterWalk is a good fit with his company and what it’s about.
“It’s just a cool area.”
