The closing of a few medical supply businesses around Wichita in the last year or two is prompting a change for Wichita-based Lindsey Medical Supply.
Brian Lindsey, who owns the business with his father, Mike, says they’re doubling their space near the southwest corner of Central and West Street and changing the name to match their other Wichita store, Broadway Home Medical, at 808 S. Hillside.
“We’re going to convert our Lindsey store over to Broadway Home Medical once we take over the whole space,” Brian Lindsey says.
Broadway Home Medical accepts insurance, but Lindsey Medical Supply doesn’t.
“That’s the reason for the two different names,” Lindsey says.
“The Medicare stuff has gotten really tough over the last few years,” he says.
That’s why Lindsey Medical Supply doesn’t take insurance. Some of the competitors that closed, though, were more Medicare-focused businesses, and Lindsey says he and his father want to capitalize on that business.
“We’re just back to broadening that aspect of the business,” he says.
Having two stores of the same name “can give us a little more dominance,” Lindsey says.
The Lindseys also have an Oklahoma City store that will remain a Lindsey Medical Supply.
The stores sell medical supplies such as wheelchairs and walkers.
“Anything to keep you in your home,” Brian Lindsey says.
They also sells nursing supplies, such as gloves and wound-care products.
Lindsey says the west-side store will double in size to 8,000 square feet. He says construction will start in September.
“Hopefully we’ll get it done in 60 days.”
