EAA’s 51st annual fly-in to be held Saturday at Newton
The Experimental Aircraft Association will host its 51st annual Air Capital Fly-in and banquet Saturday at the Newton City/County Airport in Newton.
The event, held by the EAA’s local Jayhawk Chapter 88, will include airplane judging, flying contests, Young Eagle airplane rides and other attractions.
Pilots with home-built airplanes, as well as racers, bi-planes and vintage, military and other aircraft, are expected to fly in for the event.
“We’d like to see 100 airplanes,” said EAA organizer Doug Range. That depends on weather and other factors.
Pilots will be offering free Young Eagle rides to children from ages 8 to 17.
Breakfast and lunch will be available at a cost at the fly-in. The event will be held from 8 a.m. to about 3 p.m., Range said.
Admission is $5 for adults, free for children 17 and younger.
An evening barbecue banquet will be held in the airport’s main hangar at 6 p.m., followed by a presentation by Dick Curtis, Wayne Borman and Howard Botts on the restoration of their Fairchild PT-19.
Tickets for the banquet are $20 for adults and $5 for children 17 and younger. The public is welcome.
