Cobalt Boats wins patent lawsuit against Sea Ray
Cobalt Boats has won a $2.7 million patent infringement verdict against Brunswick Corp., the parent of Sea Ray Boats, over a popular feature.
Cobalt is a family-owned company that makes high-end speedboats in Neodesha.
Cobalt’s patent is for a “retractable swim step,” a partially submerged platform off the rear of the boat that allows boat passengers to easily enter and exit the water.
In an eight-day trial in federal court in the eastern district of Virginia, a jury decided that Brunswick had “willfully” infringed on the patent.
