Wichita chamber name change to better reflect its connections

The Wichita Metro Chamber of Commerce is changing its name to the Wichita Regional Chamber of Commerce to reflect a stronger connection with the region.

It was to be formally announced to the membership Thursday evening at the chamber’s annual meeting, although the chamber board approved the change in August.

It will also shed the “Venture Boldly” tagline and replace it with “Championing Business and Community” to more explicitly recognize the chamber’s mission.

The chamber is also in the midst of raising $650,000 for new programs and to remodel its building at 350 W. Douglas as part of its 2017 Centennial Celebration.

The chamber will fund efforts to improve education by getting more involved in the formulation of education policy in the next legislative session.

It also plans to launch ICTalent, a new online database connecting job candidates and new hires to area ambassadors, in the spring.

Intrust Bank kicked off the fundraising drive with a $100,000 donation. The drive has collected $409,000 so far.
