Woman, 86, beaten by son with baseball bat, machete, police say
An 86-year-old woman was beaten with a baseball bat and a machete by her son Thursday night after she confronted him about his drinking, police said.
The woman was taken to a hospital in critical condition with lacerations and broken bones in her hand and arm.
Lt. Dan East said the incident happened about 7:30 p.m. in the 2600 block of South West Street. After the woman confronted her 53-year old son, he became upset, got a baseball bat and struck her several times. Then he got a machete and struck her again.
The woman was able to call 911, East said.
Officers arrested the son for aggravated battery and domestic violence, he said.
