Prosecutors on Thursday charged a 72-year-old Viola man with multiple sex crimes against a child.
William L. Metzen faces two counts of aggravated indecent liberties and one count of indecent liberties with a child. The crimes involve “lewd fondling or touching” of the same child on at least three occasions between 2009 and Aug. 11, according to a complaint filed in Sedgwick County District Court. The child was 10 or 11 years old when the first crime allegedly occurred and is now 14, the complaint shows.
Metzen was booked into Sedgwick County Jail on Tuesday afternoon, records show. He is held in lieu of a $100,000 bond. A judge has scheduled his preliminary hearing for Sept. 26.
Metzen, who indicated on a financial affidavit that he is self-employed in the farm and cattle industry, has requested court-appointed counsel.
