Landscape worker struck by car Monday identified

Wichita police identified the man struck and killed by a car Monday afternoon on West Street and 29th Street South as Terry A. Wright, 47, of Wichita.

Shortly before 5 p.m. Monday, a white 2012 Chevrolet Sonic was traveling north on West Street when it left the road and struck Wright, who was doing landscape work on the side of the road, Lt. Joe Schroeder said.

Schroeder said the accident is still under investigation and said it is unclear why the car left the road. A toxicology report from the 20-year-old driving the car is pending.

Schroeder was unable to say whether Wright was wearing any reflective gear while working, but did say since Wright was not in the road, he would not have been required to wear any.

Suburban Landscape Management, where Wright was an employee, declined to comment Tuesday afternoon.

This is the 18th traffic fatality and fourth pedestrian killed this year in Wichita, Schroeder said. There were 14 traffic fatalities at this time last year.
