If you go to the Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson this weekend, stopping by the state treasurer’s unclaimed property booth could be lucrative.

State Treasurer Ron Estes and his staff are trying to match Kansans with forgotten bank accounts, stocks, bonds, insurance premium overpayments, refunds, abandoned safe deposit boxes and other property. In a news release, Estes encouraged Kansans to stop by the booth in the Meadowlark Building to see if they’re the rightful owner of more than $300 million in unclaimed property.

“We had great success during last year’s Kansas State Fair, where we matched more than $750,000 to respective owners,” Estes said. “This year we hope to achieve even better results. I encourage everyone to stop by and check for their name and the names of family and friends.”

The treasurer’s staff will have a computerized database at the fair from Sept. 11 through 20 to assist Kansans interested in finding out if they have unclaimed assets. People can also search the database by visiting KansasCash.com or calling 800-432-0386.
