Wichita police made 17 cases and five arrests during the entire 2016 Riverfest, part of trend of peaceful festivals in the past two years, a police spokeswoman said Monday.

The five arrests were for a person wanted on warrants, a bag of marijuana, a runaway, criminal damage to property and disorderly conduct, Sgt. Nikki Woodrow said.

She credited Riverfest workers with taking steps that help to ensure safety, such as having gates up, making sure people had the required buttons for entry and checking bags for weapons.
