It’s going to be a big week for El Dorado’s Walnut River Brewing Co., the craft brewery that BJ Hunt and Rick Goehring opened in 2013.
Starting today, Wichita liquor stores will begin selling two of its beers – Irish Red Warbeard and High Beam IPA – in cans. The brewery launched its can sales in El Dorado liquor stores last week. The cans mark a major step forward in the brewery’s distribution plans, said co-owner BJ Hunt.
From 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, the brewery will be celebrating the opening of its tap room, which is inside its production facility at 111 W. Locust in El Dorado. The brewery quietly opened the tap room in the fall but wanted some practice before publicizing it, Hunt said. The tap room seats about 25 and offers a menu of appetizers and sandwiches plus the brewery’s craft beer. It’s generally open from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturdays.
The event also will offer $2 pints, and Augusta’s Oklahoma Boy’s BBQ food truck will be there serving food.
Walnut River also has its beer on tap in several local bars, including The Anchor, Old Chicago, Ziggy’s Pizza and Intrust Bank Arena. More are coming, Hunt said.
