Midwest Baconfest coming to Wichita in March

Mmmmmmmmm bacon.
Mmmmmmmmm bacon.

Any Friday morning when my inbox contains an e-mail titled “Midwest Baconfest” is a good Friday morning.

Hartman Arena announced this morning that it is teaming up with local radio stations BOB FM and The Wolf to put on the bacon-centric event. They’re still working out the details, but it will be March 28 at Hartman Arena, 8151 N. Hartman Arena Drive in Park City.

“On March 28, 2015, Hartman Arena and Connoisseur Media are inviting all pork lovers to celebrate everything that this mouthwatering treat stands for,” the release read.

Abby Marr, the director of sales and marketing for the arena, said that Hartman decided to put together their own baconfest after noticing the success similar events had in other cities, such as Des Moines, Chicago and Kansas City.

In other cities, the baconfests include lots of samples of bacon-centric food, from chocolate covered bacon to bacon main dishes. They have a bacon queen, bacon t-shirts and bacon song contests.

Marr said the organizers of the Midwest Baconfest are still in the process of planning the event but will offer several similar activities. They are now recruiting vendors and will announce more details later.

“We just wanted to get it out there,” she said. “It’s a big deal, and we want people to get excited about it and mark it on their calendars.”

Done and done. Stay tuned for more details.
