Not that it makes the demolition of Golden House any less painful, but downtown workers and dwellers are just days away from very close proximity to cherry limeades and chili cheese coneys.
The new downtown Sonic is almost complete on the site that was home to Golden House, a Chinese restaurant that operated at 504 S. Broadway for 16 years. It was demolished not long after it closed in early May.
Those who drive by now can see construction workers busy on the site. The familiar Sonic architecture is all in place, and the drive-up stalls just need the menu boards installed.
A spokesperson with Sonic said this morning that the restaurant chain did not want to commit to an exact opening date in case unforeseen obstacles pop up, but he did say it should be open this month. And there are only nine days remaining in this month.
I’ll let you know when it’s ready to go.
