Kate DiCamillo, author of some of the most beloved children’s books of modern times, will visit Wichita in December.

Watermark Books & Cafe is bringing DiCamillo, who will speak at 6 p.m. Dec. 2 at the former Head’s Shoes space in Lincoln Heights Village, at Douglas and Oliver.

DiCamillo’s newest book, “Raymie Nightingale,” was released in May and is a finalist for the 2016 National Book Award for Young People’s Literature.

“We’re just delighted,” said Watermark owner Sarah Bagby. She said this will be DiCamillo’s first visit to Wichita.

“She’s so incredibly entertaining,” Bagby said. “Her books are always inspiring but somewhat quirky, and you can’t help but fall in love with the characters.”

DiCamillo has written many books for young readers, including “Because of Winn-Dixie,” “The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane,” “Flora & Ulysses” and “The Tale of Despereaux,” which won the Newbery Medal in 2004.

In 2014 she was appointed by the Library of Congress to serve as the National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature.

Tickets to the reading and signing are $25 for two tickets and include a copy of “Raymie Nightingale.”
