Jazz pianist Cyrus Chestnut at Friends
Renowned jazz pianist Cyrus Chestnut, who takes his soulful sound around the world, will bring it to Wichita on Friday in a performance with vocalist Connaitre Miller. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. in Sebits Auditorium at Friends University. Miller is a Kansas native who leads jazz vocal studies at Howard University and directs the group Afro Blue. After Dark Art variety show
Several local musical acts, from Nikki Moddelmog to Opera Kansas, will take the stage for an After Dark Art variety show at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Century II, 225 W. Douglas. The event will follow the Wichita Arts Council’s annual Art Awards, but you don’t have to attend the awards to attend the variety show. Other performers will be from Music Theatre Wichita, ARISE and the Tallgrass Film Association, and jazz and tap-dancing students and teachers from Wichita State and youth groups from Wichita public schools also are on the bill. Suzy Bogguss in Hutch
Country singer Suzy Bogguss will be in concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Historic Fox Theatre in Hutchinson. Bogguss is known for songs including “Outbound Plane,” “Someday Soon” and Letting Go.” All proceeds from the tickets, which are $25, will go to TECH, which helps people with disabilities in Hutchinson.
