County fair fun, Lantern Fest makeup, new Vietnam exhibit
Final days of the Sedgwick County Fair
The annual Sedgwick County Fair at the Cheney Fairgrounds in Cheney wraps up this weekend with a long list of entertaining events. On Friday, Tracy Lawrence, a singer known for the hits “Sticks and Stones” and “Find Out Who Your Friends Are,” will perform along with Turnback Creek at 7 p.m., and tickets are $20. Karaoke will follow from 8:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday will feature a 7 p.m. Demolition Derby with $9 and $11 admission and a street dance from 9:30 p.m. to midnight. Lantern Fest make-up date
Lantern Fest, which was canceled because of rain in May, has been rescheduled for Saturday at El Dorado State Park. Participants will gather for music and dancing, along with a glowing lantern release. Susie Brown, a country singer who has performed at the Grand Ole Opry, will perform at the festival. Gates open at 4 p.m., and the lantern release will happen between 7 and 10 p.m. Last-call registration is available through Friday for $40, and registration the day of the event is $45. New Vietnam exhibit at Museum of World Treasures
The Museum of World Treasures at 835 E. First St. is opening a new exhibit on Friday called “Through the Lens: Conflict in Vietnam, 1954-1975.” The museum has renovated and renamed its Vietnam War exhibit and has filled it with new artifacts, including a large collection of pictures donated by a local veteran whose job it was to take aerial photographs for the military during the war. Other pieces in the exhibit focus on the life of a soldier. The exhibit is included with museum admission ($8.95 adults, $6.95 ages 4-12, $7.95 ages 60 and over).
