Bella Cook, Maize South junior
At 6-foot-2, the Maize South middle blocker emerged as one of the area’s most dominant front-row forces, helping the Mavericks go 37-7 and finish third in Class 5A, tying the best mark in school history. The Iowa State commit earned first-team AV-CTL Division I and second-team all-state honors after producing a team-high 323 kills on a sizzling .355 hitting percentage, plus 22 aces and 100 blocks.
Hayden Grimes, Andale senior
The 5-foot-9 Colorado State signee was the most dynamic all-around player in Class 4A, earning AV-CTL Division IV and 4A Player of the Year honors while powering Andale to a 36-1 record and the school’s second state championship. A true six-rotation standout, Grimes piled up 419 kills at a .342 clip with 28 aces, 29 blocks and 251 digs to anchor Andale’s dominant run.
Sage Illian, Maize South sophomore
One of the brightest young stars in Kansas, the 6-foot-1 outside hitter earned first-team AV-CTL Division I and first-team Class 5A honors while helping Maize South to a 37-7 season and a third-place state finish. A six-rotation threat on the area’s most talented team, she totaled 290 kills, 27 aces, 36 blocks and 217 digs to solidify herself as one of the top sophomores in the state.
Carlyle Johnson, Collegiate senior
A gifted 6-foot-2 six-rotation outside hitter, Johnson capped a brilliant career as one of Kansas’ most talented players, earning first-team AV-CTL Division IV and first-team 3A honors and becoming a two-time All-Metro selection. The Duke signee delivered one of the state’s most productive seasons with 454 kills, 46 aces, 44 blocks and 274 digs — leading Collegiate in each statistical category.
Brea Martin, Bishop Carroll senior
Bishop Carroll’s 5-foot-6 libero, Martin was the top back-row player in the area, earning first-team City League and second-team all-state honors while guiding the Golden Eagles to a 37-4 record and a Class 5A state berth. The Wichita State signee anchored Carroll’s defense with 335 digs, 53 aces and 105 assists, providing elite back-row play on one of the best teams in the area.
Abbey McNeal, Andale junior
A powerful 5-foot-9 outside hitter, McNeal was a major scoring engine in Andale’s dominant 36-1 season and Class 4A state title run. The first-team AV-CTL Division IV and first-team all-state pick tallied 349 kills at a .290 hitting percentage, giving Andale a second premier offensive option alongside fellow All-Metro star Hayden Grimes.
Ally Orth, Bishop Carroll senior
One of Kansas’ elite setters, the 5-foot-9 Bishop Carroll senior earned first-team City League and honorable-mention 5A all-state honors after steering the Golden Eagles to a 37-4 record and a trip to the state tournament. An Army signee, Orth filled the stat sheet with 716 assists, 90 kills, 72 aces and 151 digs, showcasing her versatility and leadership.
Mason Palace, Kapaun Mt. Carmel senior
A well-rounded six-rotation playmaker, the 5-foot-11 outside hitter once again anchored Kapaun Mt. Carmel during its 28-12 season and state tournament return. The Pittsburg State signee earned first-team City League and honorable-mention all-state honors with 350 kills at a .313 clip, plus 47 blocks and 201 digs to power the Crusaders on both ends.
Autumn Popp, Maize South junior
Maize South’s 6-foot junior setter, Popp was one of the most skilled distributors in Kansas, earning first-team AV-CTL Division I and second-team 5A honors while guiding the Mavericks to a 37-7 season and a third-place state finish. A future Wichita State Shocker, she delivered a standout all-around season with 894 assists, 106 kills, 42 aces, 45 blocks and 213 digs.
Audrey Smith, Trinity senior
A 6-foot-3 middle hitter, Smith was a dominant front-row presence who drove Trinity to a 31-7 season and a third-place finish at the Class 3A state tournament. The Alaska Fairbanks signee earned first-team CPL and first-team 3A honors after producing 293 kills at a .319 hitting percentage and an impressive 111 blocks to anchor the Knights’ net play.
Scott Johnson, Andale coach
In just his second season, Andale head coach Scott Johnson guided the team to a remarkable 36-1 campaign capped by the school’s second-ever Class 4A state championship. After missing the state tournament for the first time since 2017 in his debut season, Johnson’s leadership fueled a motivated roster — featuring stars Hayden Grimes, Abbey McNeal and a deep group that included Reagan Winter, Carley Keller, Abbi Winter, Kate McHatton, Mia Aouad, Mayla Spexarth, Gentry Smith, Megan Klabo and Bella Cates — to one of the best seasons in program history.
