Introducing the Wichita Eagle’s 2026 All-Metro boys track and field team
The Wichita Eagle has selected its All-Metro boys track and field team for the 2026 spring season, recognizing the top sprinters, distance runners, hurdlers, relays, jumpers, vaulters and throwers from Sedgwick, Butler and Harvey counties.
Selections were made with a heavy emphasis on postseason success from this season. The All-Metro team includes three teams, with the first team featuring the area’s top athletes.
Kapaun Mt. Carmel senior Daniel Enriquez was named the Boys Track and Field Athlete of the Year on the All-Metro team after winning the 1600-meter and 3200-meter titles in Class 5A for the second straight year.

Clay completed his climb to the top of the 3A discus podium. The Collegiate junior won the state title with a throw of 177-1, moving up after finishing runner-up last year and third as a freshman. Clay also placed eighth in the javelin at 177-7 in his first state appearance in the event.
Caleb Coffey, Kapaun Mt. Carmel sophomore
Coffey made his state debut look like the start of something bigger. The Kapaun sophomore placed seventh in the 5A 100 in 11.03 and third in the 200 in 22.24. Coffey also ran a 49.66 split on Kapaun’s 1600 relay team that finished second.
Michael Cooks, Southeast senior
Cooks wasted no time proving he belonged among 6A’s fastest sprinters. The Southeast senior placed third in the 100 in 10.78 in his state debut after running a season-best 10.45 earlier in the spring. Cooks also ran a leg on Southeast’s seventh-place 400 relay.
Jesse Eklund, Trinity junior
Eklund needed only one season to become a state champion. The Trinity junior, an all-state basketball player trying track and field for the first time, won the 3A high jump title with a clearance of 6-6. Eklund also logged a season-best mark of 6-8, quickly establishing himself as one of the top jumpers in Kansas.
Daniel Enriquez, Kapaun Mt. Carmel senior
Enriquez finished his Kapaun career with one last distance masterpiece. The senior defended his 5A titles in the 1600 and 3200, winning the 1600 in a season-best 4:07.92 and setting the 3200 state meet record in a season-best 8:59.18. Enriquez also ran faster than the previous state meet record in the 800 but finished third in a season-best 1:52.99, closing as a four-time state champion, nine-time state medalist and Oklahoma State distance signee.
Hunter Grimes, Andale senior
Grimes wrapped up his Andale career with another strong all-around showing in the throws. The senior finished a career-best third in the 4A discus at 165-4, took fifth in the javelin at 173-3 and placed 10th in the shot put at 47-8.5. Grimes qualified for state in all three throws for the second straight year, finished as a three-time state qualifier in the discus and javelin and posted season-best marks of 51-2 in shot put, 182-9 in discus and 178-8 in javelin.

Holthusen was a four-time state qualifier in the 300 hurdles with consecutive runner-up finishes and signed with Wichita State to hurdle.
Jai Johnson, Collegiate freshman
Johnson packed four events into a standout state debut. The Collegiate freshman won the 3A long jump title with a season-best mark of 22-4.25, placed fifth in the 200 in 22.59, sixth in the 100 in 11.24 and ninth in the 400. Johnson qualified for state in four individual events and made the finals in all four.
Brody Kelp, Andale senior
Kelp picked the perfect time for the best hurdle race of his season. The Andale senior cracked 40 seconds for the first time all year to win the 4A 300 hurdles title in 38.80 in his state debut. Kelp also anchored Andale’s 400 relay to a second-place finish in 42.64.
Colt Lane, Andale senior
Lane saved his best clearance for a championship finish. The Andale senior cleared a season-best 16-0 to win the 4A pole vault title, giving him his third state medal and third top-five finish in the event. Lane signed with Wichita State to pole vault.
Noah Little, Sedgwick senior
Little needed every bit of his final mark to keep his triple jump crown. The Sedgwick senior won his third straight 2A title in the event by a quarter of an inch with a mark of 44-6.5, then added a second-place finish in the long jump at 21-11.5. Little finished as a four-time state champion, including last year’s long jump title, and a four-time state medalist in the triple jump before signing with Fort Hays State.
Timmy Ritchie, Collegiate junior
Ritchie turned years of near-misses into a three-gold breakthrough. The Collegiate junior swept the 3A sprint titles, winning the 100 in 10.68, the 400 in a season-best 47.49 and the 200 in a season-best 21.45. Ritchie repeated as the 400 champion, erased a career that included three runner-up finishes and now owns eight top-four state finishes in the sprints.
Shal Ruud, Andover senior
Ruud defended his place at the top of the 5A high jump field. The Andover senior repeated as state champion by clearing 6-6 for the second straight year, this time winning the title based on misses. Ruud finished as a four-time state qualifier in the event with three straight state medals.
Brayden Spexarth, Andale sophomore
Spexarth turned last year’s state medal into this year’s javelin breakthrough. The Andale sophomore climbed from eighth to first in the 4A javelin, winning the title with a throw of 181-6 after posting a season-best 195-9 earlier in the spring. Spexarth also qualified in the shot put and added a seventh-place medal in the discus at 155-10.
Jase Thomas, Augusta senior
Thomas saved his biggest breakthrough for his final state meet. The Augusta senior came out of nowhere to win the 4A 1600 title in a season-best 4:16.84, cutting more than 16 seconds off his time, and added a career-best runner-up finish in the 800 in 1:56.74. Thomas finished with medals in both the 800 and 1600 for the second straight year and was a three-time state qualifier in the 800.
Jashawn Tolefree, North senior
Tolefree made his first trip to state count. The North senior landed a personal-best 46-3 in the 6A triple jump to finish fifth and earn a spot on the podium. Tolefree’s breakthrough gave North one of the area’s top jumps performances at the state meet.
Nathan Webb, Valley Center junior
Webb turned his third straight trip to state in the 800 into a breakthrough race. After missing the podium the last two years, the Valley Center junior exploded for a season-best 1:52.78, running faster than the previous 5A state meet record while finishing second. Webb also anchored Valley Center’s fifth-place 3200 relay with a 1:54 split.
Lucian Winters, Kapaun Mt. Carmel junior
Winters made a major leap from state qualifier to one of 5A’s best in the 400. After finishing 14th and missing the podium last year, the Kapaun junior placed second this season in a season-best 49.24. Winters also opened Kapaun’s second-place 1600 relay with a 47.75 split, helping the Crusaders finish in 3:19.62.
Northwest 400 relay
Northwest kept pushing the 42-second barrier all season. The 400 relay team of Sa’King Neal, Cordale Johnson, Henry Robinson and Dax Driskill finished second in 6A in 41.95 after breaking 42 seconds multiple times during the spring. The Grizzlies finished with a season-best time of 41.85, making them one of Kansas’ fastest sprint relays.
Kapaun Mt. Carmel 1600 relay
Kapaun saved its fastest 1600 relay of the season for the 5A state meet. The team of Lucian Winters, Connor Fleming, Spencer Sloan and Caleb Coffey finished second in 3:19.62. The season-best time capped a strong sprint showing for the Crusaders.
Kapaun Mt. Carmel 3200 relay
Kapaun broke through the 8-minute barrier when it mattered most. The 3200 relay team of Jude Porter, Eli Koster, Will Etheredge and Cole Reintjes finished third in the 5A state race in 7:57.18, marking the first time the Crusaders dipped under 8 minutes this season.
