Kansas state track cheat sheet: Qualifiers ranked by season-best performances
The Kansas high school state track and field meet has arrived, bringing the state’s best athletes back to Wichita State’s campus at Crossland Stadium on Friday and Saturday.
But before medals are won, records are chased and team trophies are decided, fans need a better way to sort through the hundreds of athletes who have qualified for state.
That is where this list comes in.
Instead of organizing the state qualifiers by their regional-winning or regional-qualifying marks, The Eagle has compiled a customized list of every Kansas state qualifier sorted by season-best performance. That distinction matters. Regional results can be affected by weather, strategy, competition level or athletes doing only what was needed to advance. A season-best list offers a clearer snapshot of who has already shown the highest ceiling entering the state meet.
It does not guarantee what will happen this weekend. But it does provide a better indicator of which athletes should be considered the top title contenders in each classification and event.
