Kansas high school softball state qualifiers set under new KSHSAA format
The road to a Kansas high school softball state championship will have a different look this spring.
KSHSAA has changed the state tournament format, splitting the opening round away from the traditional championship sites. Much like the state basketball tournaments, the quarterfinal games will be played at neutral-site locations with higher seeds assigned to the closest available site. Winners will then advance to a single-site location to finish the rest of the state tournament.
That means fans will need to pay close attention when KSHSAA finalizes the brackets, seeds, opponents and locations later this week. The quarterfinal sites will be in Baldwin, Emporia, Salina and Topeka.
The Class 4A, 3A and 2-1A quarterfinals are scheduled for next week on Monday, while Class 6A and 5A will play quarterfinal games Tuesday.
From there, the 4A, 3A and 2-1A tournaments will move to Arrocha Ball Park in Lawrence with semifinals and trophy games spread across Wednesday, Thursday and Friday next week. The 6A and 5A tournaments will finish at Wilkins Stadium in Wichita with semifinals on Thursday and consolation and championship games on Friday.
