Riverfront Stadium to play host to this year’s Carroll-Kapaun Holy War football game

The Holy War football rivalry between Bishop Carroll and Kapaun Mt. Carmel is getting a new twist this season.

The 60th anniversary edition of the rivalry game will be played at Riverfront Stadium, Wichita’s downtown ballpark, on Friday, October 7 at 7 p.m.

“At Bishop Carroll, we strive to create lasting memories for our students,” Carroll athletic director Tyler Fraizer said in a statement. “Playing in Riverfront Stadium is guaranteed to be an experience they will not forget. A Bishop Carroll/Kapaun Mt. Carmel game will showcase the finest this area has to offer: community, high school athletics and Riverfront Stadium.”

It will be the first high school football game played at the stadium, but Riverfront does have experience putting on a football show after hosting the Jayhawk Conference championship game last fall.

“Hosting football games at Riverfront Stadium was always part of the plan when we designed the facility,” Wind Surge CEO Jordan Kobritz said in a statement. “We proved last year it could be done seamlessly when we hosted the Jayhawk Conference championship game. The Bishop Carroll/Kapaun Mt. Carmel matchup, the premier high school game in Wichita, will allow both players and fans to enjoy a Wichita tradition in a first-class venue.

“I want to thank the leadership at Bishop Carroll and Kapaun Mt Carmel for their cooperation in making the game at Riverfront Stadium a reality.”

Additional details and ticket information for the game will be released at a later date on www.WindSurge.com.

“We want to thank the entire Wind Surge organization for making this two-year home and home series with Bishop Carroll a reality,” Kapaun president Rob Knapp said in a statement. “Riverfront Stadium is an outstanding facility and the natural excitement over the traditional Kapaun versus Carroll football game will be accentuated in this great venue.”
