Wichita high school football coach retires after more than 20 years
Mike Gehrer has called it a career.
After more than 20 seasons as the football coach at Wichita Collegiate, the school announced Gehrer’s retirement Tuesday via Twitter. He led the Spartans to two state championships in his tenure, with the most recent coming in 2000.
In 2018, Gehrer helped the Spartans to a 6-3 record with wins over the likes of Mulvane and rival Trinity Academy. Collegiate was bounced in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs with a 42-28 loss to Hesston.
Gehrer will remain with the school as director of facilities, the school announced via Twitter.
