Wichita’s most accomplished football player has added another accolade.

Former Wichita North running back Barry Sanders will be honored Saturday as the Oklahoma State Cowboys unveil throwback uniforms similar to the style Sanders wore in 1988 when he won the Heisman Trophy. On Twitter, OSU showed off the uniforms it will use for the Cowboys’ homecoming game against Texas at 7 p.m. Saturday.

The uniforms feature a classic “OSU” helmet logo with three stripes on the shoulders and pants with “Oklahoma State” stitched across the chest.

Sanders’ 1988 season is regarded as one of the best college football seasons. He finished with 2,850 rushing yards on 373 carries with 44 touchdowns.

He ran for more than 200 yards in seven of the Cowboys’ 12 games, including the Holiday Bowl against Wyoming.

After his OSU career, Sanders was taken No. 3 overall in the 1989 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions. In his 10-year NFL career, Sanders scored 99 touchdowns on 3,062 carries for 15,269 yards — the third-most yards in history.
