Meet Mr. and Miss Kansas Basketball for 2020 (along with other KBCA award-winners)

Being named Mr. or Miss Kansas Basketball is one of the state’s greatest achievements in the sport.

Recent high school stars so honored include Taylor Robertson from McPherson, Tiffany Bias of Andover Central and Christian Braun of Blue Valley Northwest and now at KU. The awards handed out annually by the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association put a player in the most elite company in Kansas high school basketball history.

Here is the full list of KCBA 2020 award winners.

Miss Kansas Basketball: Emily Ryan, Central Plains

Ryan leaves Central Plains as not only one of the best basketball players in Kansas history, but one of the best athletes, period.

She earned her third straight Top 5 selection from the Eagle as a senior, averaging a state-high 29.5 points per game and pushing Central Plains’ win streak to 136, the longest in the U.S.

She finished her career as one of three players in Kansas history to eclipse 3,000 points and was perhaps on her way to a fourth straight state championship before the tournament was canceled because of the ongoing pandemic.

Ryan has signed with Division I Iowa State.

Mr. Kansas Basketball: Xavier Bell, Andover Central

Bell was a two-time All-Metro and Top 5 selection for The Eagle. He took Andover Central to the state tournament in each of his four seasons and helped win the Jaguars’ first boys basketball title in 2019.

As a senior, Bell was Central’s do-it-all player. He averaged 24.6 points, 7.3 rebounds, two assists and a block and steal per game, and that included a 3-5 start to the season.

Central caught fire later in the year, with its biggest highlight coming in its Class 5A sub-state championship game as Central beat undefeated Bishop Carroll on the road.

Bell will play at Division I Drexel next.
