Introducing the Wichita Eagle’s 2026 All-Metro boys tennis team

The Wichita Eagle has selected its All-Metro boys tennis team for the 2026 spring season, recognizing the top players and coaches from Sedgwick, Butler and Harvey counties.

Selections were made with a heavy emphasis on postseason success, head-to-head results and feedback from area coaches. The All-Metro team includes three teams, with the first team featuring the area’s top four singles players, top two doubles teams and coach of the year.

Bishop Carroll sophomore Brandon Steven was named the All-Metro Player of the Year after capturing the Class 5A singles state championship.

G. Farha, Collegiate sophomore

A first-time All-Metro selection, Farha capped his season with 29 wins and a runner-up finish in the Class 3-1A singles bracket, falling only to teammate Amir Khica in the state final. He also brought state experience from last year, when he finished third in doubles.

Evan Goates, Maize South senior

A three-time All-Metro selection, the Emporia State signee closed his senior season with 34 wins and a runner-up finish in the Class 5A singles bracket after winning the state title last year. His only losses came to Bishop Carroll’s Brandon Steven in a season-long rivalry that produced one epic back-and-forth match after another.

Amir Khicha, Collegiate sophomore

Khicha left little doubt as the top player in Class 3-1A this season, finishing 23-1 and winning the singles state championship after taking runner-up at state last year. His dominant season earned him his first All-Metro selection.

Brandon Steven, Bishop Carroll sophomore

Stevens came back with a vengeance after settling for third place in Class 5A singles last year, finishing 29-2 and capturing his first state championship this season. His year was defined by a season-long duel with Maize South’s Evan Goates, as the two handed each other their only losses before Stevens prevailed in the final three of five meetings, including the state final.

Braeden Dugan, sophomore, and Gabe Weber, senior, Bishop Carroll

The Carroll doubles pairing put together a perfect season, finishing 31-0 and capturing the Class 5A state championship in dominant fashion. It was the first doubles state title for Carroll since 1982, as both players earned All-Metro honors for the first time.

Maddox Drumright, junior, and Charlie Gentile, senior, Collegiate

Drumright and Gentile teamed up for a 23-1 season and the Class 3-1A doubles state championship, adding another chapter to two decorated careers. It was the third straight doubles title for Drumright, while Gentile claimed his second straight state title after winning 3-1A singles last year. Both players are now three-time All-Metro selections.

Frank Reyes, Maize South coach

Reyes had Maize South peaking at the perfect time, guiding the Mavericks to the Class 5A team championship for the program’s second state title. Maize South made its move without a first-place finisher in either bracket, instead riding its depth after all four entries qualified out of a loaded regional, then all four finished in the top 10 at state. The Mavericks topped Bishop Carroll and Blue Valley Southwest in the team race behind the lineup of Evan Goates, Landon Cook, Tucker Lowe, Jacob Kurniadi, Preston Heard and Jack Pringle.
