Introducing the Wichita Eagle All-Metro boys tennis team for 2025 season
The Wichita area featured some of the best high school boys tennis players in Kansas this season, and that star power is highlighted on 2025 All-Metro team selected by The Eagle.
The All-Metro squad features the top players in singles and doubles, as well as a Coach of the Year, from teams in Sedgwick, Butler and Harvey counties. Selections are based on season-long performance with a heavy emphasis on postseason finishes.
After finishing his junior year by winning the Class 5A singles championship, Maize South’s Evan Goates was named the Boys Tennis Player of the Year on the All-Metro team.
Wichita Eagle All-Metro boys tennis team
Charlie Gentile, Collegiate junior
Won the Class 3-1A singles championship in a three-set thriller over teammate, Amir Khicha, to finish the season with a 15-3 record. He is a 2-time All-Metro selection after placing third in the 3-1A singles field last season.
Evan Goates, Maize South junior
Bounced back from a rare loss in a regional final to claim the Class 5A singles championship, a sweet redemption after settling for runner up last year. He is a 2-time All-Metro pick and has compiled a 62-5 record the last two seasons.
Brandon Steven, Bishop Carroll freshman
In a spectacular freshmen class around the city, Steven stood above them all with a 28-3 record and third-place finish in the Class 5A singles field. He most notably defeated both of the 5A singles finalists the week prior at the regional tournament.
Andrew Chan (sophomore) and Isaac Homan (senior), Andover
In their first year playing together, the Chan-Homan pairing produced a 34-3 record and Class 5A doubles championship. After an impressive third-place showing in a prestigious Kansas City tournament on April 22, Chan and Homan did not lose for the final month of the season.
Carter Drumright (senior) and Maddox Drumright (sophomore), Collegiate
Even with both brothers once again playing on Collegiate’s baseball team in the spring, the Drumright duo defended its Class 3-1A doubles championship with a perfect 25-0 record. The brothers are both 2-time All-Metro selections and won 52 of their 54 matches together.
Asher Deutschendorf (senior) and Braiden Liechty (junior), Hesston
For the second time in the last three years, Deutschendorf claimed All-Metro honors after winning a state doubles title. This time it was in a new class (4A) and with a new partner (Liechty), as the duo rallied to win a third-set tiebreaker to win the championship.
Mark Cross, Andover coach
While Cross is an assistant coach for the Andover girls program that has won four straight Class 5A titles, he is the head coach in the spring and led the boys team to just its second state title in program history and first since 2003. The Trojans were led this season by seniors Isaac Homan, Pierce Anderson, John Rather, junior Lad Oborny and sophomore Andrew Chan.
