Kansas high school signing day: Wichita Classical duo each to play Division I sports

Wednesday marked the first day of the fall signing period for high school athletes around Kansas to officially sign to play sports at the college level.

There were a handful of Division I signings around the Wichita area, but no school stood out more than Classical, a tiny Class 2A institution with an enrollment of 130 students, and its pair of Division I-bound seniors.

Greer Kice signed to play women’s soccer for Nebraska, while Meg Tilma signed to play women’s golf at Oklahoma. They are the first athletes to earn a Division I scholarship at Classical, which was founded in 2006 and became a member of the Kansas State High School Activities Association in 2017.

“It’s a big deal for us, for sure,” Classical athletic director Tim Dolloff said. “They’re both such great kids and even if they weren’t going D1, we could still point to them with our younger kids and say, ‘Hey, we want you to be like them.’

“And then second, there’s this idea that if you’re going to make it to Division I, you better be going to a big school. That’s not necessarily true. It takes a lot of hard work and perseverance and being driven and even at small schools like ours, you can still make that dream happen.”

Kice and Tilma have both played other sports than their specialty throughout their high school careers, something that Classical girls soccer coach Justin Kenas believes has helped their development.

On top of being one of the top goalkeepers in the country in the class of 2025, Kice has been a state medalist tennis player and also a standout basketball player during her time at Classical. Tilma was also an all-state soccer player last spring.

“We’re a big proponent as a small school of being multi-sport athletes,” Kenas said. “We like our athletes being able to strengthen their weaknesses athletically when they play other sports and strengthen areas of their body that they maybe don’t use in other sports, so it guards them from injury. We value that as a way to become a better all-around athlete and being a more well-rounded student-athlete.”

Below is a list of other Wichita-area high school seniors who have signed to play college sports. If you see an athlete missing, please email The Eagle at teldridge@wichitaeagle.com to be added.
