Kapaun, Maize South’s Week 4 high school football games canceled

Two more teams in the Wichita area will be idle in Week 4.

On Thursday, Kapaun Mt. Carmel canceled its game at Great Bend because of a positive COVID-19 test, and Maize South announced it would not compete after Campus announced it had a positive test, as well.

Maize South was seeking an opponent after the news at Campus came out Monday; Campus will not play Friday or next week against Andover.

This news comes on the tail of the Derby football team entering quarantine. After contact tracing, only eight varsity players remained in quarantine as of Tuesday.

In a news release, Kapaun officials stated they still intend to play out the rest of their 2020 football schedule.

“We’d like to thank both schools coaching staffs and teams for their hard work in preparing for tomorrow night’s game,” Kapaun football coach Weston Schartz said.

“While this decision is disappointing for all of us involved, both schools encourage all our student athletes to continue to persevere and be optimistic as we navigate these circumstances together.”
