With so many cancellations this fall, changes needed to be made, and they have.

The Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) announced adjustments to all fall activities, including football, for their postseason formats. Here is what you need to know:

Football

Classes 6A, 5A, 4A

Postseason seeding will be completed on this criteria

  1. Win/loss percentage of all games played
  2. Head-to-head record if all teams tied at one record have played one another
  3. Average margin of victory/defeat per game instead of total
  4. Drawn from lot (KSHSAA will draw)

Classes 3A, 2A, 1A, 8-man Division I and II

Postseason seeding will be completed on this criteria

  1. Win/loss percentage of all district games played
  2. Head-to-head record if all teams tied at one record have played one another
  3. Average margin of victory/defeat per game instead of total
  4. Drawn from lot (KSHSAA will draw)

Volleyball

  • Each classification will be seeded into geographical pods for sub-state tournaments.
  • Sub-state champions will be paired geographically and play a best-of-five match on the following Tuesday to determine the state semifinalists.

  • State tournaments will last one day.

Boys Soccer

  • Teams no longer have to play 10 games to avoid having their seeding percentage halved.
  • Each classification will be seeded into geographical pods of 4-5 schools instead of slicing the state into East and West.
  • Regional champions will be paired geographically to set quarterfinal matchups: Region 1 vs. Region 2, Region 3 vs. Region 4, Region 5 vs. Region 6, Region 7 vs. Region 8 at each classification

Cross Country

  • Twelve teams will still qualify for each state meet.
  • Schools will be limited to seven runners, one manager and two coaches at the regional meets on race day
  • Classes 6A and 5A state meets will be held at 4 Mile Creek Resort in Augusta.
  • Classes 4A and 3A state meets will be held at Wamego Country Club
  • Classes 2A and 1A state meets will be held at Sand Plum Nature Trail in Victoria.

Girls Tennis

State qualifiers has been reduced in singles and doubles tournament fields.

Girls Golf

  • Teams will enter a maximum of five participants, not six, to the regional and state tournaments in all classifications.
  • The top three teams, not four, in each regional will qualify for the state tournament.
  • There have been no changes made to the Day 2 qualifier.

Gymnastics

The state meet has been moved from Oct. 24 to Nov. 7 because many competing schools started the season late because of COVID-19 concerns within the districts.

Cheer and Dance

Competition will be held virtually.

Scholars Bowl

Virtual competition will be offered if in-person competition cannot be held.
