1A boys, 2A girls: Burrton boys upset Lakeside

Trae Lane scored 21 points and Taylor King added 18 as the Burrton boys basketball team defeated Lakeside 55-49 in the Class 1A-Division I quarterfinals on Wednesday night in Emporia.

Erik Jurado Sulc added 10 points and 10 rebounds for Burrton (17-7), which handed Lakeside its second loss.

King also had 10 rebounds and Lane had five assists. The game was tied at 38 after three quarters before Burrton controlled the fourth.

Burrton made 3 of 4 three-point shots — Lane was 2 of 3 — and shot 46.5 percent overall. Lakeside was held to 38.9-percent shooting.

Other Class 1A-I boys

Udall 69, Centralia 64, OT — Michael Propst scored 37 points on 14-of-19 shooting to lift Udall in the semifinals with an overtime victory. Propst made 4 of 6 three-pointers and added seven rebounds for Udall (21-3), which rallied from four points down in the fourth quarter to force OT.

Class 1A-II boys

Fowler 67, Cunningham 31 — Fowler (20-4) built a 40-13 halftime lead. Cunningham (12-12), which made 10 of 30 shots, was led by Garrett Beat’s 13 points, while Nicholas Huhman added 10.

Class 2A girls

Olpe 59, Meade 29 — Olpe extended its state-best winning streak to 76 games behind 15 points from Kendyl McDougald and 12 from Elena Flott. Flott added 15 rebounds.

Central Plains 46, Oakley 35 — The Oilers (18-5) pulled away in the fourth quarter. Central Plains, led by Sydney Rugan’s 21 points, shot 31.1 percent, while Oakley shot 27.3 percent and was led by Laura Dennis’ 11 points.

Jefferson North 81, Madison-Hamilton 29 — Madison-Hamilton was held to 11 baskets and shot 26.8 percent. The Bulldogs (17-7) were without a double-figure scorer and didn’t crack double digits in any quarter.

Republic County 38, Lebo 35 — Jennifer Hodges was Lebo’s long double-figure scorer with 11 points.
