Maize athletic director Marc Haught said this afternoon that Gary Guzman has been named the Eagles football coach. Guzman, who coached for 20 seasons at Kapaun Mount Carmel and Southeast, from where he recently resigned, replaces Craig Broadbent.
“I think I got an even better vision of what we were looking for as we were interviewing people,” Haught said. “We wanted experience. We wanted, especially in the division (Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail Division I) that we play in, we wanted a stand-up guy that has upstanding principles and is just a quality individual. Somebody with impeccable character. Gary is all of those. Experience, character and leadership is what we were looking for.”
Guzman will be a Maize physical education teacher.
