Photo contest voting begins this week

For the 14th consecutive year, the public is invited to help pick the winners of the Great Outdoors Photo Contest at the Wichita Sport Show this week at the Kansas Pavilions. At the show, which runs Thursday through Sunday, attendees will also be able to see wild-game cooking demonstrations from Michael Pearce, The Eagle’s Outdoors writer and photographer, who will demonstrate recipes from the “Taste of the Kansas Outdoors Cookbook.”

Signed cookbooks will be for sale at the event, with a special, all-inclusive Sport Show price of $20.

▪ Wichita Eagle staff has selected 15 adult and five youth finalists from several hundred entries. Voting will begin Tuesday on Kansas.com and Thursday through noon Saturday at the Sport Show. Contest winners will be announced on the Feb. 1 Outdoors page.

▪ All who cast ballots at the Sport Show can register to win a copy of the cookbook. All who entered the contest will have one free admission ticket waiting at the show’s ticket window.

The versatility of venison, 7 p.m. Thursday, 7 p.m. Friday, 4 p.m. Saturday.

Preparing waterfowl, 2 p.m. Friday, 7 p.m. Saturday.

Fish without frying, 5 p.m. Friday.

Upland game birds, noon Saturday.

Best recipes of the Kansas outdoors, 1 p.m. Sunday.
