Outdoor notes: Fund-raising archery party

On Saturday several Wichita archers, including tournament champions Christina Jones and Ray Manfull, are holding Arrows for Addison to support nine-year-old Addison Adams, an avid archer with inoperable brain cancer.

The event begins at 11 a.m. at Diamond Archery, where Addison has shot in a youth program for about three years. Funds are being raised to help with medical costs, and to help the family get ready for a Make a Wish cruise in May.

Raffle and silent auction items include a guided bow-fishing trip, a Mathews bow valued at more than $900 and other items.

“This thing just keeps getting bigger and bigger as people keep donating,” said Jones. “Our fliers are never up to date.”

Two-man teams can compete on a 25-target course, with a $40 entry fee. Half of those proceeds go to the family, as does 10 percent of all sales at Diamond Archery that day. But it’s about more than just money.

“One thing we’re really wanting is for people just to come out and have fun with Addison,” Jones said. “We’ll have a balloon shoot for kids. We can furnish equipment and coaches for those who haven’t shot. We just want everybody to have a lot of fun.”
