Low Plains Early Zone Duck Season – through Dec. 3, Dec. 16-31

Cheyenne Bottoms WA: Whooping cranes located in vicinity but not on the area as of Thursday. Total duck numbers 40,000-60,000, with about all species of dabblers and divers present and 100,000-150,000 geese, with equal numbers of snow and white-fronts, with Canadas increasing. Pools 1A is 29 inches, 1B and 1C are 28 inches, Pool 2 is 22 inches, Pools 3A is 13 inches, 3B is 14 inches, 4A is 16 inches, 4B is 17 inches and Pool 5 is about dry. Hunting conditions are fair to good. Success expected to be fair.

Jamestown WA: Talmo Marsh unit’s Trost and Warren tracts are closed due to Whooping Cranes on the area. Water levels are poor to good, with Gamekeeper and Gun Club dry all season. Approximately 2,200 ducks, mostly mallard, redhead and shovelers, are present, with 50 Canada geese. Hunting conditions are poor to excellent, dependent on water conditions. Success expected to be fair.

McPherson Valley Wetlands: Water levels poor, marshes are mostly dry. Approximately 400 ducks, mostly mallard and teal, and 100 geese were observed. Hunting conditions are fair. Success expected to be fair to poor.

Texas Lake: Approximately 300 ducks, mostly teal, mallards, wigeon and pintail, were observed. Pool 1, 2, 3B, 4, 6 and 8 are full, with Pool 9 60 percent full. Pool 7 is nearly dry. Hunting conditions are fair to good. Hunting success expected to be fair.

Low Plains Late Zone Duck Season – through Dec 31, Jan. 20-28

Byron Walker: Water levels 75 percent full in the lake; all marshes are dry. Approximately 200 ducks, mostly mallard, gadwall and redheads, and 25 geese are present. Habitat conditions should be fair to poor. Hunting success expected to be poor.

Cedar Bluff: Water level is 26.0 feet below conservation pool. Approximately 6-8,000 ducks, mostly mallard, gadwall, divers and wigeon, are present, as well as 500 Canada, 100 snow and a few white-fronted geese. Conditions rated fair, with mud flats at the west end. Success expected to be fair.

Council Grove: Water level is 1.2 feet below conservation pool. Approximately 300 ducks are on the area, primarily scaup, bufflehead and goldeneye. Hunting conditions rated difficult, with bare shorelines making hunter concealment challenging. Success rated poor to fair.

Glen Elder: Water level is 0.3 feet below conservation level. Approximately 10,000 ducks, mostly pintails, mallards, gadwall, wigeon, shovelers and teal, are present on the reservoir, along with 9,500 Canada, 600 white-fronts, and 60,000 light geese. Hunting conditions are fair, with some flooded shoreline vegetation. Hunting success expected to be fair to good.

Kanopolis: Water level is 2.0 feet above conservation level. Approximately 800 ducks and 300 Canada geese are present. Hunting conditions are fair to good, with some flooded vegetation along shorelines. Hunting success expected to be fair.

Lovewell: Water level is 2.3 feet below conservation level. Approximately 2,000 ducks were observed, mostly teal, mallards and divers, and 200 Canada geese. Hunting conditions are fair to good, with bare mudflats and vegetation along the shorelines. Hunting success expected to be fair to good.

Marion: Water level is 1.6 feet below conservation level. Approximately 700 ducks and 200 Canada geese are on the area. Hunting conditions are fair. Hunting success expected to be fair.

Quivira: Area closed to hunting due to numerous Whooping Cranes observed late this week. Water levels fair, with water in some hunting pools. Approximately 18,300 ducks, mostly pintail, mallards and green-winged teal, and 72,900 geese, mostly White-fronts and light geese, are present. Hunting conditions fair. Check Quivira website www.fws.gov/quivira for Whooping Crane presence and hunting closure information.

Webster: Water level is at conservation pool. Approximately 3,000 ducks are present, along with 2,000 Canada and 3,000 snow geese. Hunting conditions are poor to fair, with some flooded timber available to boat hunters. Hunting success is expected to be poor to fair.

Wilson: Water level is 0.9 feet above conservation pool. Approximately 600 ducks are present, mostly redheads, shoveler and teal, along with 600 Canada geese. Habitat conditions are fair to good, with some flooded vegetation in the west end. Hunting success expected to be fair to good.

Low Plains Southeast Zone Duck Season – through Dec 31, Jan. 6-28

El Dorado: Water level is 3.0 feet below conservation pool. Approximately 120 ducks and 20 Canada geese are present. Hunting conditions are poor with little waterfowl attracting vegetation available. Hunting success expected to be poor.

Elk City: Water level is 0.7 feet above conservation pool. Approximately 10,000 ducks, mostly teal, mallard, gadwall and pintail, are present. Hunting conditions are fair. Hunting success expected to be fair to good.

Fall River: Water level is 0.1 feet above conservation level. Few ducks are present. Hunting conditions are difficult due to recent water level fluctuations. Expected hunting success to be poor

Marais des Cygnes: Approximately 15,000 mixed ducks, mostly teal and mallard, are present. Most marshes have fair to good water. Hunting conditions expected to be good. Success expected to be fair to good.

Neosho: Approximately 20,000 ducks, mostly mallard, teal, pintail, gadwall and wigeon, are on the area, as well as 150 Canada and 100 white-fronted geese. Water levels are good. Hunting conditions rated excellent. Hunting success expected to be fair to good.

Toronto: Water level is 0.2 feet above conservation pool. Few waterfowl observed on the reservoir. Hunting conditions are difficult due to recent water level fluctuations. Expected hunting success is questionable.

High Plains Duck Season – through Jan. 1, Jan. 20-28

Norton: Water level is 12.9 feet below conservation pool. Approximately 450 ducks observed on the area, as well as 400 dark and 400 light geese. Recent reservoir rise has inundated some terrestrial vegetation. Hunting conditions are fair. Hunting success expected to be fair to poor.
