Outdoor notes: Crappie catching contest
Officials at Harvey County West Park are asking the public to help with an over-population of crappie and carp at the lake north of Burrton by having a Crappiethon Friday-Sunday.
Two person teams, with one being at least 18 years old, need to register to win prizes for teams that catch, and keep, the most fish. Registration at the lake will be 4-8 p.m. on Friday. Fishing can begin immediately after registration. The contest goes through 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Toronto Reservoir float trip
The Arkansas River Association is hosting a float on the Verdigris River near Toronto Reservoir on Saturday. A 9 a.m. launch is planned at the public boat ramp south of the U.S. 54 high bridge. Take-out is expected to be mid-afternoon, after paddling mostly flat water.
Some members will be camping at Cross Timbers State Park. Loaner kayaks and other equipment are available, with proper notice.

Family fishing day
Saturday, the Ralph Cramm Memorial Family Fishing Day will be at the School Road Pond in Rose Hill. The event is hosted by the Cramm family, the Kansas Wildlife Federation and the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Cramm was a longtime outdoors radio show host who died last year.
Equipment will be furnished or anglers can bring their own. Instructions and assistance will be provided for beginners by experienced angling instructors.
