Wingnuts’ road trip starts with a loss
Frank Martinez’ two-run triple in the third helped Gary Southshore to a 5-1 victory over the Wingnuts on Friday night in Gary, Ind., in the first game of a six-game road trip.
Taylor Black, who went six innings, allowing seven hits and striking out five, earned the victory.
Wingnuts starter Eddie Medina was charged with all five runs.
The Wingnuts scored in the fourth when Nick Van Stratten doubled in T.J. Mittelstaedt, who had singled. Van Stratten signed with Wingnuts earlier Friday.
Wichita missed a scoring opportunity in the eighth. Zack Cox doubled and Mittelstaedt singled him to third with one out. However, Matt Chavez hit into an inning-ending double play.
