Winnipeg holds off Wingnuts 8-7

Winnipeg beat the Wingnuts 8-7 on Friday night in Canada.

The Goldeyes scored four in the first off Wingnuts starter Anthony Capra, who was making his first appearance since suffering a hamstring injury June 4. Capra walked the first three batters he faced, then allowed a single, a double and a sacrifice fly as Winnipeg took a 4-1 lead after one inning.

The Goldeyes led 8-4 entering the ninth and reliever Eric Eadington retired the first two batters he faced before hitting Zack Cox with a pitch, allowing a single to T.J. Mittelstaedt and hitting Matt Chavez loaded the bases. Martin Medina reached on an error than allowed two runs to score, Brent Dean singled to load the bases and Richard Prigatano singled in Chavez to make it 8-7, but Eadington struck out Brennen Salgado to end the game.

The Wingnuts are 7-5 so far during their 14-game road swing during the NBC World Series.
