Blasters outblast Wingnuts 13-12
The Wingnuts scored in eight of nine innings and it still wasn’t enough, losing 13-12 to the Joplin Blasters on Saturday night at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.
The Blasters took the lead from the start, scoring three two-out runs in the first inning off Wichita starter Todd Kibby.
The Wingnuts answered with a Brent Clevlen homer in the bottom of the first, then three runs in the second powered by Leo Vargas’ triple and Christian Stringer’s double to go ahead 4-3.
Joplin retook the lead with three runs in third aided by two Wingnuts errors, and Wichita spent the rest of the chasing the Blasters.
Wichita scored two in the bottom of the third to make it 6-6; Joplin went ahead 10-6 in the fourth. Wichita got within 10-8, then 11-9, then 11-10, then 12-11 … but never took the lead.
