Wingnuts power past Laredo 7-2
The Wingnuts had 10 hits – seven for extra bases – to support seven shutout innings from starter Tim Brown in a 7-2 win over Laredo on Monday night at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium in a meeting of the top two teams in the American Association South Division.
Mitch Medina, Matt Chavez and Harrison Kain each had doubles during a two-run second inning. Chavez added a three-run homer in the third to make it 5-0, and Kain’s solo homer in the fourth made it 6-0. A seventh-inning double by T.J. Mittelstaedt drove in the seventh run.
Brown allowed five hits and a walk in seven innings, and improved to 5-2 this season.
The win gives Wichita a one-game lead over Laredo in the South. The three-game series continues Tuesday night.
