Wingnuts strike early, beat Sioux City 5-4
The middle of the order provided early pop for the Wingnuts in a 5-4 win over Sioux City on Saturday night at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.
Dustin Geiger hit a two-run double in the first to put the Wingnuts ahead 2-1. Brent Clevlen and T.J. Mittelstaedt hit consecutive homers in the third inning to push the lead to 5-1.
Jon Link (6-2) protected the lead into the sixth inning before allowing a second run. The Explorers closed within 5-4 in the eighth inning, before Chad Nading worked the ninth for his first save of the season.
The Wingnuts activated pitcher Seth Harvey before the game and placed Eddie Medina on the disabled list.
The Wingnuts are off Sunday, then open a four-game series against Texas on Monday at Lawrence-Dumont.
