Lemurs rally for 3-1 win over Wingnuts
The Wingnuts’ normally reliable bullpen gave up three runs in the eighth inning of the Lemurs’ 3-1 win on Wednesday night in Laredo, Texas.
Wingnuts reliever Jesse Pratt entered the game to start the eighth and got two flyouts around a one-out single, then issued walks to Zane Chavez and Denis Phipps to load the bases. The Wingnuts brought in closer Frankie Reed, who gave up a bases-clearing double to J.D. Pulfer.
Wichita relievers had allowed one earned run in 13 innings in the previous five games.
Wichita starter Ryan Kussmaul limited the Lemurs to one hit and two walks in seven shutout innings. Laredo starter Barret Loux also pitched seven scoreless innings before the Wingnuts get the game’s first run in the top of the eighth inning.
Phipps was the only Laredo runner to advance past first against Kussmaul, who was making his second start for Wichita. Phipps singled to start the second inning, and stole second and third. He was caught in a rundown between third and home for the inning’s final out.
