Jon Link leads Wingnuts to 9-0 win over T-Bones
The Wingnuts put together their first shutout and first series sweep of the American Association season Wednesday afternoon.
Jon Link threw seven strong innings and Wichita scored eight runs over the first three innings to pound the Kansas City T-Bones 9-0 in Kansas City, Kan. The Wingnuts (9-11) swept all three games at CommunityAmerica Ballpark
Four consecutive extra-base hits – Christian Stringer triple, Zack Cox double, T.J. Mittelstaedt double and Dustin Geiger two-run homer – keyed the Wingnuts’ five-run first inning. Brent Dean added a three-run homer in the third inning for an 8-0 lead.
Link (3-2) was coming off a complete game in his last start and was even more effective Wednesday, not allowing a hit in his final three innings. Jesse Pratt and Chad Nadling retired the last six T-Bones in order to preserve the shutout.
Wichita begins a four-game series against the Texas AirHogs on Thursday night in Amarillo, Texas.
