Charlie Lowell sets up Wingnuts win with seven solid innings

Charlie Lowell limited Gary to one run in seven innings, giving the Wingnuts’s offense time to finally put up some runs of its own in Wichita’s 6-1 win Wednesday night in Gary, Ind.

The RailCats took a 1-0 lead in the third with a pair of two-out hits against Lowell — Gary’s only hits off the Wingnuts’ starter until a seventh-inning double.

The Wingnuts, who left six men on base in the first six innings, broke through for two runs in the seventh. John Nester opened the inning with a single and went to second when Dustin Geiger walked. Luis Hernandez followed with a two-run double. In the eighth, Wichita four hits, two walks and a wild pitch to add three more runs, and T.J. Mittelsteadt homered in the ninth inning.
