Seventh-inning rally sparks Wingnuts
David Espinosa’s two-out double drove in Jayce Ray with the go-ahead run to cap a three-run seventh inning as the Wingnuts beat the RailCats 4-3 on Tuesday night in Gary, Ind.
John Nester started the inning with an infield single, moved to second on Dustin Geiger’s single, and scored on a passed ball. Geiger scored the tying run when he stole home, and Ray, who had reached on a walk, came around from first on Espinosa’s double.
Jason Van Skike pitched seven innings, allowing five hits and no walks.
The Wingnuts added relief pitcher Shawn Talkington to the roster and released Kori Melo. Talkington, a right-hander, pitched four seasons at Emporia State and was 5-4 with a 3.33 ERA in 26 games this spring.
