Lemurs knock off Wingnuts 3-2, even series

Laredo took advantage of eight walks by Wichita pitchers and defeated the Wingnuts 3-2 on Thursday night in Laredo, Texas.

The victory enabled the Lemurs to tie the American Association first-round playoff series 1-1. The best-of-five series will move to Wichita for Game 3 on Saturday night.

Wingnuts starter Anthony Capra walked Denis Phipps and Travis Denker in the first inning. Byron Wiley then singled in Phipps.

In the third, Denker again walked and Wiley singled him to second. After Devin Goodwin walked to load the bases, J.P. Ramirez singled in Denker to make it 2-0.

In the sixth, Wingnuts reliever Chris Peacock walked Ramirez and Kyle Brandenburg singled him to second. Phipps’ single drove in Ramirez to give the Lemurs a 3-0 lead.

The Wingnuts got on the board in the seventh when Brent Clevlen walked and Carlo Testa hit a two-run homer.

Wichita put the potential tying run on base in each of the last two innings but couldn’t get a runner home. Chris McMurray hit a leadoff single in the eighth and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt, but Ryan Khoury lined out and Lake Luce grounded out.

In the ninth, Abel Nieves hit a two-out single, but Carlo Testa was called out on strikes to end the game.
