Wingnuts let lead slip away on road
Shreveport scored two runs in the sixth and added the go-ahead run in the seventh, beating the Wingnuts 3-2 on Wednesday in Shreveport, La.
Wichita starter Ryan Hinson threw five scoreless innings before running into trouble in the sixth when he hit Alex Cowart to start the inning. A double by Mike Provenchar moved Cowart to third, and one out later Bryan Sabatella hit an RBI single to make it 2-1. Palmer Karr Jr tied it with an RBI groundout.
Hinson departed after allowing a single to Uriak Marquez leading off the seventh. Reliever Jared Simon retired the first two batters he faced while Marquez moved to second on a stolen base and third on a groundout. A single by Cowart knocked in Marquez.
The Wingnuts took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on Brent Clevlen's RBI double. Peter Barrow extended his hitting streak to six games with his first professional homer in the fourth inning.
The Wingnuts are off today, then start a seven-game homestand on Friday.
