Thunder beats Mallards 2-1 in Quad City

The Thunder took nearly twice as many shots as Quad City on Friday night and scored twice as many goals, beating the Mallards 2-1 in Moline, Ill.

Wichita outshot Quad City in each period and finished with a 36-19 edge, but didn’t score until 6:05 of the second period when Ian Lowe netted a power-play goal. Jared Walker made it 2-0 with a third-period goal.

Quad City cut the lead in half with a goal by Justin Fox at 9:07 of the third, but Tim Boron and the Thunder defense protected the lead the rest of the way.

The Thunder and the Mallards are tied for second place in the ECHL Central Division with 48 points, though Wichita has played one more game.

The teams meet again Saturday night.
